Chiropractic Care and Career Training

The practice of chiropractic care is slowly becoming more popular as an increasing number of individuals want to obtain treatment or pursue a career in the field. The practice is surrounded in controversy as many doctors and patients discuss using the therapy as part of their health care regime and wonder if it really works. This growing fact is showing that even though people deny the practice as helpful, the numbers reflect the opposite. Those who are looking to enter into this field can do so by choosing an accredited chiropractic school to enroll in and receive training.

First, let's look at the numbers stated by the Bureau of labor Statistics. Chiropractors held about 49,100 jobs in 2008, many of them worked in private offices or their own private practice. Students can train for this type of career by obtaining a higher education which will require that a doctorates degree be received in order to enter the workplace. Training will last eight years in order to obtain the proper skills and knowledge. The employment outlook for those with the proper training is estimated to increase by 20 percent by 2018; this increase is faster and higher than all other occupations. This projected growth is directly related to the consumer demand for alternative healthcare. Students that decide to train in chiropractics can do so by enrolling in an accredited school or college and obtaining the proper education.

Looking at the statistics on chiropractic care and the projected growth of the industry shows the effectiveness of the practice. When training for an occupation in this field, students will learn a variety of techniques that can be utilized to relieve stress and pain. The demand for chiropractic treatment and the focus on non-invasive healthcare practices are giving individuals various options for careers. Consumer demand for the practice isn't going anywhere and neither is the testimonial proof that chiropractic care is legitimate and helps people heal and feel better in regards to their overall health. This is good news for those that have the desire to become a chiropractic professional.

Chiropractors emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and they do not prescribe drugs or perform surgery on their patients.

Students can complete training to learn more about what the job entails and how to become a successful professional.
Training will teach students to base their practice on the foundation that having a healthy nervous system and aligned spinal cord will promote good health and self-healing.
Studies will focus on the patients overall health by providing students with training that will help them learn about alternative healing.
Students can learn to help their patients understand that multiple factors work together to either promote good health or make it worse.

These factors include exercise, diet, rest, environment, and heredity which can be learned in training.

Second, let's take into consideration the beneficial results of providing chiropractic care. Evidence and studies have proven that the therapy can help patients with a number of different painful conditions. Low back pain is a leading cause of chiropractic visits, particularly acute low back pain. Along with helping low back pain students can learn techniques to help reduce the flare-ups of low back pain, lower the level of abnormal function, increase mobility, and get patients back to participating in normal everyday activities like walking.

Harmful effects can occur, but picking a well-known licensed chiropractor that has a high level of experience and training in the field will protect individuals from harm. Chiropractic students will learn how to pick up on warning signs that will let them know if providing chiropractic care will worsen the problem. Students can learn to detect if manipulation of the spinal column would create more pressure and cause damage by completing the require coursework and training that is provided by the school of enrollment. Studies can include massage therapy training, anatomy, technique, and biology. Students can also train in natural healing and business management to help prepare for a successful career.

Chiropractic Care - A Safe Management for Chronic Pain

Many people are experiencing chronic pain. At present, there are various options on how you would like to manage and treat your pain. Some opt to control pain with over-the-counter pills while others attempt proper diet and wellness exercises in order to develop the strength of their bodies. There are a few brave ones who choose to undergo surgery, thinking that it is the only ultimate way to relieve pain. Unfortunately, surgery does not guarantee that it can correct the problem. One thing is certain though - the pain is real and you want to do something about it. Before attempting to manage chronic pain with those methods mentioned above, think first. Is there a natural way to control this pain?

Medication regimen often yields unfavorable side effects and can also possibly lead to drug dependence. When taken frequently, these drugs can also cause liver or kidney damage. These drugs resolve the symptoms but do not provide solution to the real problem.

Chiropractic care is a natural option that can provide pain relief. It had already established itself in the health care systems for more than 100 years. Nowadays, chiropractors such as experts from Chiropractic Colorado Springs are Board Certified and are well trained and highly skilled in the health care field. They can provide treatment and relief of various forms of pain.

Chiropractors believe that the body has an innate ability to heal and regulate its own functions. If there are misalignments which are termed as subluxations, the function of the nervous system gets disrupted. Chiropractic care restores the proper alignment of the spinal vertebrae through manual manipulation techniques. These techniques had been used for many years to resolve various medical issues and pain. Advancements in chiropractic care have improved spinal manipulations and made them more efficient and relaxing than ever before. Many chiropractors also include other drug-free managements such as counseling and exercise that works hand-in-hand with therapy sessions to promote optimum health and resolve pain and prevent its recurrence.

Even more importantly, chiropractors can often help you to identify the sources of your chronic pain. They frequently recommend corrective exercises that can be performed at home to counteract these problems and prevent pain from getting worse. Many offer lifestyle and nutritional advice to help enhance your body's ability to heal itself. After some rehabilitation sessions, you will notice reduction in the pain experience and you'll feel rejuvenated. Some chiropractic venues, such as Chiropractic Colorado Springs, offer further pain management methods such as comprehensible information regarding pain management.

Surgery is painful, takes a long time to recover, require anesthesia, and administer medications with a high probability for addiction. Chiropractic care is a great natural way to manage chronic pain. As soon as chiropractic therapy is initiated, you will observe that your symptoms will start to get better. Additionally, chiropractic therapy provides drug-free relief for various concerns and treats underlying problems that are causing the pain.

Evidence shows how chiropractic care is efficient for people who are experiencing chronic pain. It improves the functions of the spine and reduces the pain experience. A clinical study published in July 2003 issue of SPINE compared Bextra/Celebrax/Cox-2 inhibitors and chiropractic rehabilitation for the treatment of chronic pain. Data provided that the natural healing process of chiropractic treatment was 5 times more effective in managing chronic spinal pain. Its counterpart medication regimen also caused more pain, yielded negative side effects and untoward reactions. Continuous studies are being made regarding the effectiveness of chiropractic care. It's just sad that there are still many people who are not aware that chiropractic care can naturally treat various problems and pains. People should become aware of this drug-free, side-effects free, and effective pain resolution therapy - the chiropractic way.

So before you decide to take another over-the-counter management for pain, search for the benefits of chiropractic care. Chiropractors, like those from Chiropractic Colorado Springs, will work alongside you to identify the source of your pain and provide pain resolution as well as long term pain management to alleviate and prevent further pain experiences. Seek out chiropractic care and start improving your general health status and quality of life.

Co and Counter Dependency

Co-dependency and counter-dependency in the context of a relationship are both types of co-dependent behavior because the underlying reasons for both behaviors are the same these are:

1. Low Self Esteem brought about by feelings of shame
2. Fear of being alone

On the co-dependent side the co-dependent person desperately looks for a person who is prepared to put up with their shameful self. They will open up to this person because they feel that they feel they have a need to salve their consciousness about inflicting themselves on another person. They will do anything for that person including debasing themselves in order to keep them because they feel that they have no worth and that their partner will eventually realize this, they will adopt compliance behaviors.

On the counter-dependent side the counter-dependent person cannot face their shame and will do anything that it takes to avoid facing it which may involve virtually any type of addiction the most common of the traditional addictions being alcoholism. Another form of addiction even more common is the addiction to adrenalin in the form of anger at people in general and at their partner in particular. A counter-dependent person is afraid of opening up to another person possibly because they have been rejected or betrayed earlier in life but primarily because if they open up to another person they are also opening up to themselves and facing what they have refused to face. They try to bind their partner to them by threatening their partner and belittling them so that there partner will feel helpless and dependent on the counter dependent, they will adopt control behaviors.

In reality most co-dependent relationships have elements of both co-dependent and counter-dependent behavior in both co-dependents where each switches from one role to the other resulting in the push/pull effect often seen in codependent relationships, however usually each person in the relationship will predominately assume either the co-dependent or the counter-dependent role.

As a rule co-dependent people will subconsciously seek out counter-dependent people and counter-dependent people will subconsciously seek co-dependent people. Sometimes you do find two counter-dependents in a relationship where they are always fighting or two co-dependents in a relationship where they both feel aimless.

As a result of people being brought up with a male stereotype of men being strong, decisive and dominant and a female stereotype of women being caring, nurturing and submissive, then men are more likely to fall into the counter-dependent role and women are more likely to fall into a co-dependent role, although it must be noted that this is not always the case and there will be some relationships with a counter-dependent woman and a codependent man (the stereotypical hen pecked husband).

Recovery for the co-dependent in the co-dependent role involves them first accepting themselves and facing their shame. After which the co-dependent must learn to understand the subconscious co-dependent habits which are detrimental to their relationships in order to correct these behaviors.

Recovery for the co-dependent in the counter-dependent role can be much more problematic than for the co-dependent because they must first overcome any physical addiction they may have at which point their substance addiction will be replaced by adrenalin addiction resulting in anger irritability or resentment which is the normal behavior of a counter-dependent in a relationship who is not substance addicted.

The problem is that anger/irritation/resentment has the effect of making the angry person believe that he/she is always in the right. This makes it very difficult for them to be convinced of the extent of negativity in their behavior.

If reading this, you believe that you may be co-dependent either in the co-dependent or counter-dependent role, you may wish to seek counseling or join a Co-dependants Anonymous group. Most importantly you will need to be patient both with yourself and your partner because you need to remember that it took many years for you to become like you are so you can expect it will take time to modify your behavior.

Co-Dependency: The Basics

Amal, a 25 year-old social worker, sought therapy because of difficulties related to intimacy. Through their weekly sessions, Amal's therapist learned about her upbringing; Amal grew up in a family of two sisters, with parents who had immigrated to the United States from Jordan. Amal's therapist noticed that she often described herself as the "go-to" person, be it at work, with friends, and especially with her family. Amal kept every burden to herself, as she was seen as "the strong, dependable one". Unfortunately, this pattern had a detrimental effect on Amal. She became the epitome of the classic caretaker, following a career path which led to only more caretaking. In the end, her romantic relationships suffered, one after the other, as she felt a strong desire to control, had angry outbursts, felt very insecure, and could not assert herself. That is when Amal's therapist introduced her to the concept of co-dependency.

What do we mean by co-dependency?

Years ago, the term was heavily associated with partners of alcoholics who felt trapped in a caretaking role, placing others' needs before their own. While this aspect of co-dependency is still applicable and present, the term has come to encompass a broader sphere of behaviors. Melody Beattie defines a co-dependent person as "one who has let another person's behavior affect him or her, and who is obsessed with controlling that person's behavior" (Beattie, 1992). Co-dependent behavior can become inextricably entwined with being a good daughter, brother, wife, caregiver, religious figure, or even therapist.

Typical behaviors of co-dependent people

Caretaking: co-dependents feel responsible for others. They feel anxious when they hear of others experiencing difficulty, and will do whatever it takes to alleviate their burdens.

Obsession: co-dependents' obsession with worrying about others affects their personal lives. For instance, they have trouble sleeping and often feel tired and restless.

Controlling: when individuals are trapped by the belief that their world is spiralling out of control, they will try to compensate by controlling whatever they can. This is a way of correcting the past.

Denial: co-dependents keep themselves occupied so that they can avoid ruminating about their problems.

The Dangers

Low self-worth: co-dependents do not know how to appropriately respond to compliments and praise. They never feel good enough, berate themselves for the most trivial things, and their insecurities prevent them from making decisions.

Dependency: they are taken by the idea that others complete them. They never feel fulfilled on their own, and look to others to satisfy them.

Weak boundaries: it is easy for co-dependents to allow others to take advantage of them; however, this leads to feelings of resentment.

Trust: they do not trust themselves or others.

Anger: co-dependents can have angry outbursts. They feel agitated and high-strung all of the time.

Detachment and Assertiveness Training

A primary step in dealing with co-dependency involves detachment. Contrary to popular belief, detachment does not refer to detaching yourself from those you love and eschewing your responsibilities, but rather, detaching yourself from the involvement, control, and unhealthy patterns of interacting. Co-dependents must become aware of what they can and cannot change. They must live in the here and now. Looking in the rear-view mirror is futile; you cannot change the past. Obsessing over what will come is equally fruitless; you cannot predict the future. Assertiveness training often goes hand in hand with co-dependency. Assertiveness training begins with knowing who you are, what you value, and being able to communicate that. It is not an easy process, as it involves working with one's self image and core beliefs. Denial, fear, and anger are normal aspects of the process, but eventually therapy can offer clarity, hope, and a sense of peace.

Through therapy, Amal first came to realize what she was doing and why it was unhealthy. She learned to love herself, to know herself, and to figure out what she wanted in life.

Co-dependent individuals benefit immensely from psychotherapeutic support which helps them view their experiences with a fresh lens, and can be very empowering for them, ultimately guiding them to understand and respect themselves and others. If you or someone you care about appears to be struggling with aspects of co-dependency, it may be a good idea to reach out for support.

Order With Confidence At A Mexican Restaurant

These days there are so many choices when we decide to dine out, and one of the most rapidly increasingly popular options is Mexican restaurants. With the influx of immigrants all over the world, it is now easy to find a Mexican restaurant in your home town that is run by real Mexicans, and decorated with large panama hats and other cultural pieces. So, when you decide that you wish to try some Mexican food, you need to know how to interpret the menu and what to choose. Although Mexican food is well known for being spicy, there are a lot of choices for all tastes.

For a starter dish, a plate of nachos with melted cheddar cheese and side dishes of guacamole and sour cream have to be a favorite, and not just with the foreign diner. These crisp maize crisps taste great, and you can choose to have them served on a bed of crispy lettuce, or even with some spicy chilli con carne. If you wish to avoid anything hot in this dish, then make sure that you make sure to ask for no jalapeno peppers to be hidden in your dish. This excellent appetizer makes a great center piece for the table and something to nibble on whilst you are waiting for your main course.

One favorite main course to order on your Mexican restaurant has to be some crispy chicken fajitas. Served in a sizzling iron pan, the chicken strips are lighted basted with spices and served to your table mixed with some red and green peppers; just the smell of the frying pan is enough to get your taste buds watering. Why a lot of people choose this dish is because you can build up your own fajitas from tortilla wraps, lettuce, chicken, sour cream, and some lightly grated cheese. This dish is not hot and is great even for kids who will love to build their own dinner!

Mexican food has a reputation for being spicy, and if you wish to try a spicy dish, then a hot chilli con carne could be a great start. If however you wish to be more adventurous then you can try a hot and spicy burrito or enchilada, cooked to your own tastes, and with as much spice as you can handle. Of course, one ingredient that you will find in Mexican food that makes their dishes extra hot is some jalapeno chilli peppers. These really spice up your dish, and if you order them as a side dish, then you need to be prepared to have a cool coronita with a slice a lemon to wash it down with.

Mexicans are famed for their side dishes that accompany their food, and it really is a great way of making sure that you have all your special and favorite ingredients in one dish. Side orders of jalapenos, refried beans, and rich guacamole made from the freshest and ripest avocado pears are just some of what is on offer. With side dishes, you can choose extra salsa, extra chilli to make your dish just that bit spicy, or even choose extra lashings of sour cream that will help sooth your throat after all those jalapenos. Mexican cuisine is simply divine and these are just a few of their most famous dishes that you should try.

The Candida Diet

The Candida Diet is a necessary evil, as many of my patients will agree. If you are a Candida sufferer, the diet is something that "you can't live with yet you can't live without." The diet is feared, hated, despised, misunderstood, and often can make the difference between the success and failure in the elimination of the yeasty beast! The purpose of this article is not to explain what the Candida Diet is. This can actually be found on our website in the "patient only section," or by simply searching the Candida Diet on the internet. The purpose here is to explain why it is important!

I will also explain how the diet is generally healthier than most diets that are being followed in the 21st century.

The Candida Diet is low in carbohydrates, low in sugar, and generally low in fermented foods like vinegar, alcoholic beverages, etc. Candida feeds on sugars. Sugars make it grow and strengthen its adherence to the intestinal lining. While on a Candida Diet, the total amount of carbohydrates for the day should not exceed 150 grams. At the Biamonte Center, we use 3 versions of the Candida Diet that range between 30-50 grams, 60-90 grams, and 100-150 grams of total carbohydrates for the day. Avoiding sugar and alcohol are the most important factors. These substances can cause the fastest and greatest increase in Candida growth. They are the most dangerous. Starches come next. Starches convert to sugars in your body. Candida can feed on healthy sugars just the same as it can on junk food. Many of your patients will notice that sweet fruits will flare their symptoms just as noticeably as junk foods! When eating starches (carbohydrates), choosing those foods that have a lower "glycemic index" rating is best. The glycemic index is a scale that rates how fast a food converts to sugar in you blood stream. Examples of the glycemic index can easily be found on the internet. Fermented foods like soy sauce, vinegar, etc. can be important to avoid, especially if the person has reactionary symptoms from the food. These foods often produce an allergic reaction in the Candida sufferer's intestinal tract which can upset the good flora and the intestinal immune response. Foods from the fungus family like mushrooms, etc. can be allergens in the same manner as the fermented foods.

Foods high in yeast can have a similar effect to fermented foods and the foods from the fungal family. Foods that contain yeast do not contain Candida. They contain baker's yeast. This is not Candida. These foods can aggravate Candida by causing allergic reactions, but they cannot cause Candida.

The Candida Diet, though apparently restrictive, is actually higher in nutrients than the diet of the average American. The Candida Diet in fact is very similar to "The South Beach Diet," "The Zone," and "The Hunter/Gatherer Diet" (also known as the "Paleolithic Diet"). There are races of people who are all slimmer, stronger, and faster than us. They all have straight teeth and perfect eyesight. Arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, depression, schizophrenia, and cancer are absolute rarities to them. These people are the last 84 tribes of hunter-gatherers in the world. They share a secret that is over 2 million years old. Their secret is their diet- a diet that has changed little from that of the first humans 2 million years ago, and their predecessors, up to 7 million years ago. Theirs is the diet that man evolved on, the diet that is coded for in our genes. It has some major differences to the diet of "civilization." You are in for a few big surprises.

The diet is usually referred to as the "Paleolithic Diet," referring to the Paleolithic or Stone Age era. It is also referred to as the "Stone Age Diet," "Cave Man Diet," or the "Hunter/Gatherer Diet." More romantic souls like to think of it as the diet that was eaten in the "Garden of Eden," and they are correct in thinking so. For millions of years, humans and their relatives have eaten meat, fish, fowl, and the leaves, roots, and fruits of many plants. One big obstacle to getting more calories from the environment is the fact that many plants are inedible. Grains, beans, and potatoes are full of energy but are all inedible in the raw state, as they contain many toxins. There is no doubt about that- please don't try to eat them raw. They can make you very sick.

Around 10,000 years ago, an enormous breakthrough was made- a breakthrough that was to change the course of history, and our diet, forever. This breakthrough was the discovery that cooking these foods made them edible- the heat destroyed enough toxins to render them edible. Grains include wheat, corn, barley, rice, sorghum, millet, and oats. Grain based foods also include products such as flour, bread, noodles and pasta. The cooking of grains, beans, and potatoes had an enormous effect on our food intake- perhaps doubling the number of calories that we could obtain from the plant foods in our environment.

How to Find Your First Vacation Rental

As the economy continues to lag many Americans are discovering the (somewhat) new world of vacation rentals. Families in particular are finding that vacation rentals are a much cheaper way to enjoy first class accommodations at reasonable prices. Renters can visit exotic locations and expensive cities for half the cost and three times the space of a traditional hotel. However, despite the perks of vacation rentals, many people have yet to try them out. There are various reasons for this, but one common issue is that the would be first time vacation renter is simply nervous about (or doesn't understand) the rental process. It's true, that when someone books a hotel they basically know what they are buying, a level of stale predictability. With a little homework and due diligence, anyone can find a vacation home that far exceeds their expectations.

This list of tips and tricks will help you, the first time vacation renter, get the right place the first time so you too can start enjoying the wonderful world of vacation rentals.

Vacation Rental Listing Sites

Currently all of the vacation rental listing sites are basically the same. They each have their own color scheme and look but their search functions and features are almost identical. Simply by googling 'vacation rentals' you can find a myriad of listing sites, so, just find one you are comfortable with and you're ready to start searching.

Finding Homes

The hardest part of the whole vacation rental process (and maybe the reason many people don't rent them) is finding properties close to your destination. There are hundreds of vacation rentals in every major city, but if, for example, you searched 'Disneyland CA' on any of the major listing websites you would be given results from San Diego to Santa Barbara and everywhere in between. This search term on one of the larger sites brought back 540 listings. It would take long time to wade through all of these listings. Therefore, if you are traveling to a large metropolitan area like LA, it's best to find the name of the actual city you want to stay in e.g. 'Anaheim' for Disneyland. Unless you are familiar with the area you should start with Google Maps. From there you will be able to see the surrounding cities, attractions, etc. To use our Disneyland example, maybe you want to stay at the beach rather than in Anaheim. By using Google Maps you can see that Newport Beach or Huntington Beach would be great places to start looking for a vacation rental. On the same listing site as above the search 'Newport Beach CA' brought back 111 listings, and 'Huntington Beach CA' brought back 33 results. This is a much smaller list to manage and you know that the properties are all in close proximity to your desired destination.

Reviewing

Once you get your search narrowed to 4 or 5 houses that look good from their locations and pictures its time to start comparing. First, You need to contact the owners directly (this will save you a lot of time!). DON'T bother reading the pages and pages of features, amenities, things to do, etc. With one phone call to the owner you will have all the info you need without reading 400 lines of text. Remember, this is the property owner's business, so they are more then happy to talk to you. Also, you will get a good idea just through your conversation whether or not you want to rent from this person. While you have them on the phone ask them about the amenities, condition of the house, recent upgrades or renovations, if their family stays at the house often, etc. These questions will give you a good idea of the true condition of the house. If the family is there often then most likely the owners keep a close watch on repairs, upkeep, etc. If they rarely use the place then it may need new paint, the yard might need attention, or there may be some other issue associated with an absent owner. A short written list of questions will prevent you from forgetting a question or leaving something important unanswered. Most owners are very upfront so don't feel like you need to quiz them or pry answers out of them, but its helpful to have specific questions that you would like answered.

If you don't see them, ask for pictures of bathrooms and the kitchen. These rooms, more than others, will show you the condition of the home. Look for little details like age of furnishings and bedding. After your phone calls if there are still 2 or 3 houses that look good it simply comes down to the details. Do you want the pool and spa with 2 bathrooms, or the house that only has a spa but 3 bathrooms? These details differ for the party, but the hard work is done and you are ready to book!

Contracts, Fees, Credit Cards, etc

Here is another place the first time renter gets scared. Have no fear, this is the easy stuff! Owners have rented their properties many times and even though its new to you they know what they're doing. Some owners have simple contracts, others have more complicated ones. You should read it through and ask any questions you have. However, a contract will protect you as much as the owner. The owner of a property is in business-they want to rent their home and they want return business. They are trying to provide the best possible experience for you as their guest and will answer any questions you may have. If you are nervous about giving your credit card information know that you are actually safer using a credit card for payment. If you call your credit card company to contest a charge with a merchant, the credit card will support you as their customer, unless a merchant can show total fraud and use of the property on your part.

Security deposits and cleaning fees protect the property, the owner, and you. Generally the cleaning staff are the eyes and ears for the owner. Just follow the outlined rules for the home and you will receive your security deposit back. Be honest if something does break, let the owner know and they will usually be very understanding. Owners are people too and do understand accidents. Although you will be responsible for replacement, it is much easier to deal with it upfront than fight over it later when the property owner does discover the broken item. Again, owners are looking for good customers who love their home, they are not looking to "rip you off", take security deposit money for no reason, or steal your credit card.

If you do find a home is not as advertised, immediately contact the vacation listing site where you found the property, as well as the property owner. Listing sites are also in business and do not want owners listing with them that create a bad name for their site or for the vacation rental industry. They will remove the listing and very well may help in getting your money back. Overall vacation rentals are a very positive experience. Every once in awhile there are small discrepancies but these are few and far between. This is one reason vacation rental use grows each year.

Enjoy

Okay, you've booked your first vacation rental and now its time to go enjoy it! Each year more people are discovering that vacation rentals are the best way to travel, they enjoy privacy, space, and a unique experience every time. With a little work you can find the perfect place for your party and have more fun and relaxation then a hotel could ever provide. So, for your next excursion, remember to book a vacation rental. Happy vacationing!

Understanding Co-Dependency

The term co-dependence is pretty familiar to many people today. It is a term that arose out of the treatment of alcoholics and refers to how one person, generally a spouse, would benefit in some way by having their alcoholic partner remain an alcoholic. And the alcoholic partner would, of course, benefit by having the spouse benefit from their alcoholism. The more technical definition of co-dependence is simply mutual need, which is certainly not a negative situation, it is simply part of reality...we all have mutual needs and often rely upon one another to meet those needs; it is the dependence of two people upon each other in maintaining harmful or self destructive behaviors which makes co-dependence a problem.

In much of my writings about behaviors, I emphasize the positive intention underlying dysfunctional behaviors suggesting that all behavior no matter how dysfunctional strives to meet a need; that the need is valid although it may be immature or even somewhat distorted due to any number of traumas in a person's past. Nevertheless, the premise remains that all behaviors arise out of a positive intention to meet unsatisfied needs. This is also true for what is traditionally referred to as co-dependent behavior. To understand what that underlying need is requires some understanding of developmental stages. Without going into much elaboration, we all have extremely important belonging and connection needs. We need to feel as though we are connected to another person, or persons; we need to feel that we belong in our world. One way this can be brought about is to create a situation in which we are needed by another person. Thus, in the traditional alcoholic dyad of husband and wife, the wife may need to be needed and can be needed if she goes along with her husband's need for drinking. He needs her to support his alcoholism and she needs him...to need her, which he does as she supports the alcoholism.

Similar examples can be found in various relationships where one partner depends on the other partner to make him or her feel good, worthy, valuable, important, sexy, successful...Co-dependent relationships can commonly be found in families wherein one parent, often the mother, needs to be the loving, caring person watching over her child even when the child is in his or her late teens and almost a young adult. The child then comes to oppose and resist what they perceive as over protection which only causes the parent to increase their "loving and caring" behavior which is in fact controlling behavior based on a need of theirs to be what they consider loving and caring. In such a scenario neither really get what they want, or need. The child needs autonomy and independence and the parent needs to be genuinely loving and caring. Therapeutic intervention would consist of helping each person come to recognize the positive intention underlying this dynamic and present methods by which they could each meet their needs of authentic autonomy and genuine loving, caring behaviors.

One problem we tend to have, as a society, in dealing with co-dependence is our strong belief in independence. The term co-dependence often comes with an attached negative label. Very few individuals or couples when told they are co-dependent would say thank you, we're glad to hear that. Yet, a good, productive, healthy relationship is actually very co-dependent. That is, each person in the relationship is dependent upon the other for any number of things including the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing as well as the higher needs of belonging and connection. Nobody is truly independent as we are incredibly dependent on others for just about all of our basic and higher needs. As you sit and read this essay, can you think of any one thing in your immediate environment that is independent? The computer on which you may be reading this essay is a compilation of parts each one dependent on a source from which it was derived. The computer itself, as an operational machine is dependent on a power source which is itself dependent on various elements. And let's not examine the incredible dependency of software on which the modern functioning computer relies. You as a person are also very dependent on numerous elements including clothes manufacturers, who are dependent on their sources; car manufacturers and their sources of component parts, not to mention the workers who assemble the cars, and the power grid required to run the factory. You are dependent on local markets and their network of suppliers...and truckers...and gasoline. And, all the people employed by these markets...the clothing stores, the food stores, the hardware stores the car dealers, the gas stations, etc., etc., etc...are all dependent on you...and me. And, let's not forget that at a more basic survival level we are indelibly dependent upon the air we breathe, the water we drink and the soil in which are food grows all of which are dependent upon us to keep those resources clean. We are a nation of co-dependence, not independence. Modern quantum physicists will agree that independence is an illusion as the entire universe is a dependent phenomenon.

Above all else, we are dependent on our natural environment for all of the material which make up the products that surround us ultimately are based in the natural world. And the natural world, with reference to human use of it, is dependent upon human behavior to ensure it's sustainability into the future. We would do well, as a nation, to write a Declaration of Codependence. So, let's not automatically consider co-dependence.

a bad thing. Co-dependence only becomes a problem when it reinforces and maintains behaviors which are unhealthy and self destructive.

Keeping in mind that unhealthy and self destructive behaviors arise from positive intentions and a striving to meet valid needs, any co-dependent behaviors which fall into the category of unhealthy and self-destructive ought be examined in the light of what needs are striving to be satisfied and how best can those needs be met in healthy and productive ways. Even such healthy and productive behaviors can still be considered co-dependent, but in a positive light, simply by the recognition that we are creatures of dependence...and healthy, productive dependence can meet our needs of connection, belonging and even sustainability.

Candida Yeast Infection : Many Have it Few Know it

Let's say that a person especially a women has a sore throat and takes an antibiotic as treatment. She will feel better immediately after taking the antibiotic, the pain will be gone and his body temperature will be normal. But after taking the antibiotic it is very possible to notice something odd in her underwear, a discharge she hasn't had before.

This is a very common case of Candida yeast infection. If the person goes back to the doctor she finds out that the Candida treatment procedure is very simple and causes no pain.

This could happen to anyone. But before worrying about suffering from Candida yeast infection, you should know some basic stuff about this disease.

First of all, you have to know what exactly Candida yeast infection is. This infection is also known as candidiasis (which is pronuounced as can-dih-dy-uh-sis) and it is describing a very common infection that is being caused by a fungus called Candida. The fungus is similar to yeast, so the infection borrowed its name. An important aspect you should be aware of is the fact that every person carries small amounts of Candida fungus is his/her body. These fungi don't cause any infection because the balance between the bacteria and other factors is at the right level and the bacteria are not multiplying to cause the infection. The infection occurs when the fungi's number is growing above the normal level. Warm, moist areas of the body like the mouth or the vagina are the most usual places where the bacteria is multiplying and causing the infection. When the vagina is being affected by the infection, the disease is called vulvovaginal candidiasis.

As previously said, the Candida yeast infection is being caused by the overgrowth of the Candida fungi. This could happen for a lot of reason. Pregnancy or stress may cause it as well as some illnesses which affect the immune system. Even some medicines like birth control pills or steroids may cause the Candida yeast infection. But the antibiotics are the most dangerous as they kill the bacteria which is preventing the overgrowth of the Candida fungi, consequently the infection is on its way. Another cause for the Candida yeast infection could be high blood sugar, but in young females' case. Girls who are suffering from untreated diabetes present a higher risk of suffering from with Candida yeast infection.

Even underwear may cause Candida yeast infection if it is too tight or if it is made out of nylon which is usually preventing the body from breathing. This fabric is creating a hot, moisture environment which is perfect for the growth of Candida fungi. Showers and very scented sanitary products can also modify the balance between the good bacteria and the Candida fungi, allowing the latter to multiply and lead to a Candida yeast infection.

Girls should know that Candida yeast infections are more obvious right before their periods because of all the changes at hormonal level. And they should also know that they can get Candida yeast infection even if they don't have any sexual activity. They shouldn't worry, the Candida yeast infections are not sexually transmitted diseases but they can be rarely passed from one sexual partner to another. But these cases are very rare and they don't require immediate Candida yeast treatment.

Everything You Need to Know About Male Infertility

Female and male infertility is fairly common nowadays. If you feel that there is a problem with you and your partner in having a child, you need to understand the causes of female and male infertility.

The Causes of Female and Male Infertility

Infertility in the male is caused by a few different factors. It is essential to have healthy sperm production for conception to happen. This sperm needs to be strong enough to reach the egg. It will need good motility. If the sperm count is below optimum or the sperms are of poor quality, pregnancy will rarely occur. The problem could also be that the sperm is not formed properly or they die prematurely before they can reach the egg.

Women need to have both healthy eggs and blockage free fallopian tubes to allow for conception. Female infertility is often caused by ovulation disorder. Correct cycles of ovulation are necessary for the healthy eggs to descend into place for the sperm to reach it. Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the more common problems in female infertility. Female and male infertility problems can also be due to birth defects or genetics that causes damage to the reproductive systems.

Female and male infertility is treated in different ways and by different types of medical doctors. A gynecologist often is the first consultation for female infertility and men need to see an urologist. Once the cause of the female and male infertility is determined, the proper treatment can then begin.

Some Facts about Male Infertility

Many people would think of infertility as a woman problem. The fact is that up to half of all infertility cases are exacerbated or caused by male infertility. Hence, it is important for any infertility test to include an investigation of both male infertility as well as the female problems.

Causal Factors of Male Infertility

The infertility may be caused by zero sperm production. Such a condition is known as azoospermia. Another condition called oligiospermia is where there are very few sperm present in the semen. This will greatly reduce the chances of conception. It can also be a problem of sperm motility. The sperm are present, but cannot move effectively enough to effect fertilization. Finally, there can be problems with the form and structure of the sperm that can also inhibit fertilization.

Male Infertility Testing

It is important for couple to understand that infertility affects both men and women. The problem may not lie with the woman. It is important for the male to take a male infertility test to determine the source of the problem.

A male infertility test is conducted with a sperm sample provided by the man through masturbation. The same way that sperm donation is collected. This is normally done in the privacy of his own home and delivered within a specified time. Or it is collected in the fertility clinic. After the sperm sample is collected, the doctor will conduct male infertility test to determine the quantity and quality of the sperm.

Treatment Options for Male Infertility

The male infertility test can show whether the man has a low sperm count or if his sperm are irregular. For diagnosis, a test will be conducted to get the exact sperm count. The solutions available for this condition are not wearing tight clothing, reducing weight, stop the smoking and generally avoiding extreme temperature in the lower body region. Sometimes fertility drugs can be used to help improve the sperm count so that he can successfully impregnate his mate.

Male infertility may be a result of problems with the sperm and seminal fluid, or with the reproductive organs. Varicoele is one common cause of male infertility. Enlarged varicose veins that are present in the spermatic travel route cause this condition. The first sign of varicoele is the appearance of large dilated veins on the scrotum. The second sign is a large painless bulge or swollen area on the scrotum. In some cases, there are no symptoms at all. The treatment for this problem is simply to remove the blockages and allow normal blood flow. Surgery is used to tie off the affected veins. The male fertility solutions for these problems are generally effective.

Sometimes the treatment for male infertility can simply be a few behavioral changes such as adequate rest. Your doctor may recommend less frequent intercourse for the problem of low sperm count. This is help build up a better concentration of sperm. If hormones are the culprits, medication can be used to remedy the problem. Another effective treatment for male infertility is artificial insemination, where fertilization takes place outside the womb. This can be a very effective treatment for certain condition such as low sperm counts since a single sperm is placed inside an egg.
